...But what is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is an active type of talking therapy that has been shown to successfully treat disorders including anxiety, depression and PTSD.
CBT focuses on the link between how we feel, and what we think and do. By understanding more about what is happening in these three areas, we can start to target and work on achievable changes.
Other therapies
Sometimes a different type of talking therapy might suit your needs better. For example, skills from Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) could help to build up your capacity to regulate intense emotions. Or, Narrative Exposure Therapy (NET) can help in working on multiple traumas or difficult life events. Alternatives to CBT including those provided by other practitioners would be discussed with you if this was felt to be in your best interests.
